Resistance to Reform
Resistance to Reform
Despite the good intentions of the Chicago Woman’s Club, some women and children rejected clubwomen’s reform and beautification efforts. Many working women and delinquent children embraced the disorderly city with its “immoral” amusements and “improper” dress while others assailed the buildings and structures erected by the Chicago Woman’s Club. Although the members of the CWC asserted the importance of their club work, the targets of their reform did not always agree.
