seal.jpg
The Loyola University Chicago seal, used on only diplomas and certain official, legal applications.

At the top of the shield a black phoenix arising from red flames holds two golden keys in altire with the wards and part of the stems visible. The shield is encircled by golden laurel leaves issuing from the wings of the phoenix and joining in the base a silver scroll edged in gold on which is inscribed in red letters the Jesuit motto "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam". The background between the shield and the inner circle of the periphery is sliver and the peripheral band is maroon, edged in gold, displaying "Loyola University Chicago" between two towers, with the date "1870" in the base, all in gold.
