A translation by Mathias Souterman, S.J., of volume 2 of Hazart’s Kerckelyck historie van de gheheele wereldt, a popular illustrated work on the progress of Christian evangelization efforts in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Hazart was a Flemish Jesuit, and a prolific author of works on religious controversy. Although his pictures of the American mission enterprise is hardly an accurate one – Hazart had never visited most of the places he described – the value of the text is enhanced by some very fine early engraved representations of the Americas and its peoples.
