Records for Gorey’s early school education are vague. He skipped first grade and spent two years in a Catholic school.
In November and December 1932, Gorey is in Bradenton Florida staying with relatives. This is documented by a letter to his mother dated November 30, 1932 and a postal telegraph from his mother and father in Chicago.

Apparently Gorey remained in Bradenton Florida until May 1933. Several letters from classmates document his return to Chicago.
