General Histories - Acosta
Acosta’s Historia natural y moral de las Indias represents an attempt to fit the novel and varied natural phenomena of the New World into the established scientific and philosophical categories of the Old World. By placing America within the scheme of the known universe, Acosta sought to demonstrate that the new continent posed no threat to the order God had assigned to nature and the course of history.
