General Histories - Molina
Molina, Giovanni Ignazio, 1740-1829
The geographical, natural and civil history of Chili…Translated from the original Italian, by an American gentleman [R. Alsop]…(Middletown, Connecticut, 1808)
Molina was born near the town of Talca, Chile, in 1740, and joined the Jesuits in Santiago at the age of fifteen. With the expulsion of the Jesuits from Spanish dominions in 1767, Molina retired to Italy where he produced a number of works on the natural and civil history of his native land. His Compendio della storia geografia, natural e civile del regno del Chile was originally published in 1776; American interest in Chile’s struggle for independence occasioned this English translation of 1808
