Ignacio de Paredes, b. 1703

Promptuario manual mexicano. Que à la verdad podrà ser utilissimo à los parrochos para la enseñanza, à los necessitados indios para su instruccion, y à los que aprenden la lengua para la expedicion…(Mexico City, 1759)

Ignacio Paredes was born in Puebla, taught grammar at various Jesuit institutions throughout Mexico, and produced a number of texts and catechisms in native languages. His Promptuario manual mexicano is a collection of prayers and addresses written in Nahatl, designed to instruct the Nahua Indians in the doctrines of the Catholic Church. The pieces were probably intended as ready-made sermon texts for missionaries unfamiliar with Nahuatl.
